Senior Project Update

What are you currently doing in your independent component?

Well I have currently started changing my diet and on my fourth workout day. Since most boot camp class focus on gaining strength and diet i have created a workout plan for gaining strength and still building upon it.

(2) What is a recent piece of research (article, interview, or audio-visual) that have you reviewed you would say was significant in helping you understand where to go next in your senior project?  The piece of research should be something you reviewed in November.  Please explain what you learned and where are you going next because of this piece of research.

Last week Monday I heard a group of trainers from my boot camp class talk about the difference between gaining muscle and building strength. This was really significant because I realize I was confusing muscle building with strength building. The difference is that gaining muscle helps you build some strength but not as much as strength building workouts because you lift slowly and your focus is to get big. My main focus is to gain some muscle but also gain a lot of strength which requires and active workout such as 10 push ups then lift weights for each rep so basically its a quick really intense workout. This info was really helpful because now i know what to focus on which is to gain strength and become more flexible.

(3) Provide evidence from your independent component or the piece of research as something you recently did.  For example, a photo of something you working on for your independent component or your notes from the video you watched.

I don't have any photo yet but I'll be posting some Monday.

1.What traits are the most essential to become a succesfull fitness instructor?

2.I am not going to revise my EQ at this time.

3.The possible answers are:
A.The way you treat your clients and the feedback you give your clients because if you want people in your class to put their trust on you as a instructor you must treat them in a friendly way. Giving students good feedback too because it gains trust by giving advice or wven helping with a workout plan.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

(1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.

So my goal is to create a workout plan for myself because most training instructors have their own workout plan to get people fit. So I'm creating a  workout plan and do it for 30 days or more and try to get some results. If I't works then that would be great because that means it's an effective workout.

(2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.

Well I'll be hitting the gym 2 or 3 hours a day and I'll probably go over 30 hours but at least i'll already have done 30 hours. I'll also be having mentors to help me out and guiding me on which workout would be the most effective.

(3) How does your independent study component relate to your working EQ?

Well in order to teach a class or person as a fitness instructor you need to build you're own workout plan for people to do.   If the workout plan a success then it wold be great because in order to be a successful fitness instructor you must have a good workout plan.

working EQ

The Pentagon

1. So far I liked my topic.Being a fitness instructor is really fun and I really like the workouts. I also got to meet many of the other staff members so I won't have any problems of finding other fitness instructors to ask more questions. The first time I met the trainer I had no idea that there was so many different kinds of trainers so i'm glad I got to talk to her and  she explained to me about it and help me choose the one I was looking for.

2. The interview with the mentor was really helpful, she explained everything I had to do to become a fitness trainer. She explained every class I had to take in college and the variety of other things I can take to make myself a even better trainer.

3. The workouts with my trainer probably is the main thing that worked out the most because I get to have a feel of this job. Teaching a class workouts was not as easy as i expected, some people needed help and others were waiting for the next one but it was overall a good experience.

4.The research checks and soreness after workouts hasn't worked out with me so far. I feel that the research check hasn't helped me much because most books and information from the web gave me the information I already know and doesn't give me the information i would get from a trainer up in person. The soreness after workouts is a pain in the neck too my body wants to give up. I didn't expect I had to push my body this hard.

5. (a)
What is the highest position you can get as a trainer?
Is it hard to find a job as a trainer once you have got all the requirements to become a trainer and is   searching for a job?

(b) I want to get as much connection as I can so that I may get some discounts to gyms and be part of the people trying to reach their goals to loose weight or gain muscle. This is not a job I really want to get into its just a job I thought was interesting , but I hope I get to see people change through this workout process.

(c) I'd like to talk to other trainers that work in other gyms because there's so many type of classes you may teach one you are certified. I'd also like to hear their experiences and struggle trying to get certified.

Problem Statement

1.Physical fitness

2. One issue that is common in the physical fitness area is being to tough for people especially beginners. Once they find it too hard they quit the class and you have less people which makes it less fun because you want to compete against people in you're class and feel determine to catch up. Once i solved it I'll show some physical fitness trainers ways to make the beginners feel more comfortable and help catch up.

3.Another issue is having a reliable fitness trainer because they are a big factor in the success of you're fitness and weight loss. Once the problem is solved i probably ask the gym to post a bio of their trainers on either their webpages or wall so that people can have a look of who they are working out with.

interview preperation

1.I plan to interview an aerobic trainer that works at a YMCA on Thursday 9-13-12. I haven't met up with the person yet cause she is on vacation but i'm looking forward to see the workout she's planning for the class. I've heard good reviews from the class that usually go there but I want to see it for myself.

2. Questions would ask: "Why did you choose aerobic training and not other workouts such as strength workout or yoga what makes aerobic stand out?", "How do you feel aerobic training benefits you?" " What type of aerobic do you focus on and why?"

Topic

Working Bib:
Bibliography

What is your topic and why?

My topic is aerobic training for basketball, I chose this because it was something that I find important when you want to take your basketball skills to the next level. Running up and down the court required a lot of energy and your going to need to a good oxygen system to help you bounce back after a short time of rest. This is what this workout is for you improve heart rate, lungs metabolism, one muscle, and it even helps with cholesterol problem, but requires a lot of dedication.

iPoly citizen:

With the job shadowing i'm doing I am also looking forward to learn more of the social aspect of being a trainer in aerobics. During the aerobic class i learned that you always have to be on time because everyone is always here on time and looking forward to the workout and coming late can effect the views they have on you as a trainer. Most people that come have tight schedule and pay a lot of money just to take the class so you have to be there on time and ready to prepare a workout. Being a trainer for a whole class you must also keep a high standard in conduct because most people that come to workout expect you to be nice and helpful.
Effective communicator:

This topic will help make me more effective as a learner because presenting in front you must make sure everyone is engage in your topic. This will help me read an audience and customize my presentation to make it more of an engaging presentation that will put people at the edge of there seat. To make it engaging you must have a good body language and must be clear and concise in speech and attentiveness. That's what I notice the most when doing aerobic exercise with the trainer. The trainer knew he was doing and always helped people who needed help and making sure everyone is doing it right so that they won't injure them self.

Effective Learner:

This will make me more effective as a learner because it will challenge my memory of the topic and introduce me to things that I never knew about the topic. Once I learn the topic i may teach other people what I learn about my topic and just by teaching someone your topic by translating the information into your own word it helps you stick that knowledge in your head just like playing basketball for many years the skill is always gonna be stuck in your head.

Effective User of Technology:

This will make me more effective as a user of technology because i will have techniques to carry out a particular task such as the best way to achieve something such as burning off calories the quickest and slim down.

Dina senior project

Blog 1: Summer Mentorship Component

Literal: It was pretty hard to find a basketball mentor. When i first started i thought this was going to be a piece of cake. First of all I had no one I knew that knows anything about basketball. I learned this sport from watching basketball on TV when I was little till now. So it was a hard challenge and it was hard getting calls and emails back I think emailed and called almost 7 leagues and none email or called back because most basketball don't start either in spring or winter. The places i contacted were Supreme basketball league, YMCA's, GYMS (24hr & la fitness), inland valley basketball, High Schools.

Interpretive: Well you need a mentor to help you get further in depth in your topic. Like in basketball your not going to be the best just by doing it yourself. Your going to need professional that have mastered that area to help you such as Kobe his mentor was Jordan and he taught him everything he needed to know and now look at Kobe he's the best. So having a mentor is important if you want to be successful in that area.

Applied: I'm probably going to find 3 or 4 more and if i'm still having problems i'm just going to switch to a different topic.
